Ohio Star Ball 2006 - Wednesday

Dancing with the Stars Finale Draws a Crowd at Ohio

Though the Rhythm Scholarships drew quite a crowd to the Regency Ballroom last night, another crowd of professional and amateur competitors from the Ohio Star Ball gathered in the second floor lounge to watch the finals of Dancing with the Stars. Applause filled the room when Cheryl and Emmitt finished their last dance, but a virtual crescendo of cheers erupted when it was announced that they had won it all. Though it was the general consensus that Mario is a fine dancer, and has obviously worked very hard in the last 10 weeks, this crowd of dancers' hearts were won by Emmitt's spirit and obvious passion for the craft of dancing.

Stay tuned, we'll be posting a video clip of the crowd's reaction and thoughts on Wednesday night's show.

So what do you think? Do you agree with the dancers from the Ohio Star Ball that Emmitt should have won, or are you more of a Mario fan? Tell us what you think by clicking on the Comment link below.

The Ohio Star Ball 2006

Well, kids, as of 3 p.m. (EST) today, the Ohio Star Ball kicked off its 2006 run. With more than 14,000 entries this year,  the largest dancesport competition in the United States (possibly the largest in the world, but don't quote me on that) is already pulsating and rocking. The Regency Ballroom of the Hyatt Convention Center in downtown Columbus, Ohio, is packed with anxious dancers. The ladies are glittering, the men are smoky hot, and all are dancing at peak performance. All I can say is... Wow.

Mr. Sam Sadano, organizer of this event, just passed by. I stopped him for a brief hello and asked him how he was doing. "Today," he said, "today, I think I am doing okay. I think. Yesterday was a different story. It was so crazy. But today is good." With a squeeze of my hand and a quick kiss on my cheek, he dashed off again. Well. He's busy, you know? But, his color was good, his eyes were bright, and in Sam Sadano fashion, he gave a good natured wave as he bustled off to handle his competition business.

One thing I will never tire of at dancesport competitions is the friendly comraderie of the dancers. Well wishes and good-luck hugs are the commonplace greeting of all who enter here. As it should be, for these people have worked hard all year long preparing for this.

So stay tuned. I'll post more as the days go by... so far... it's exciting as it can be. More later, dears.
